Starting a Fire of Prayer Online

Wouldn’t it be amazing if the internet was lit up by millions of stories of answered prayer? Noticed I said millions, not just a story going viral, but a multitude of stories rippling across the internet.

The ability for certain videos or posts to go viral online is rather mind-numbing.  As of January 2012 the top 10 Youtube videos were:

  1. Justin Bieber – Baby ft. Ludacris;  684,597,595 views
  2. Jennifer Lopez – On the Floor ft. Pitbull; 463,245,100 vies
  3. Lady Gag – Bad Romance;  438,181,560 views
  4. Shakira –  Waka Waka (This time for Africa); 435,406,537 views
  5. Eminem – Love the Way You Life ft. Rihanna; 419,238,359 views
  6. Charlie bit my finger – again!; 403,885,492
  7. LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem ft. Lauren Bennett, GoonRock; 338,476,990 views
  8. Parto in un letto; 324,131,517 views
  9. Eminem – Not Afraid; 305,724,343 views
  10. Justin Bieber – Never Say Never ft. Jaden Smith; 290,917,758 views

Music videos and a cutesy clip of a kid biting his brothers finger dominated 2011.  Youtube had over 1 trillion playbacks in 2011.  That’s about a 140 views for every person on the planet.   This is just youtube!  We not even talking about facebook, twitter, blogs, tumblr accounts, squidoo lens and innumberable other platforms for virtually connecting people.  The numbers are mind numbing.

What if…

My inspiring thought this morning was simply this–What if posting answered prayers became viral?  I am not talking about a video or a post becoming viral, but the activity of posting answered prayers becoming viral.  I would love to see answered prayers spread.   More importantly, we could delight the heart of God and minister to millions of people.   Imagine opening facebook and find dozens of people sharing inspiring answers to prayer or, hundreds of thousands of people on youtube sharing amazing things God has done.

Starting the Fire

So, to start this fire of prayer on the internet I have posted my video above of a recently answered prayer that was tremendously meaningful to me.  I hope it is inspiring for someone.  I hope God speaks through it a word someone need to hear.  Most of all I hope it moves you to share your own answered prayer story. Your story doesn’t need to be lengthy. Your story could be a single word: “healed!”, “saved!”, “led”, “strengthened”.
You story does need to be shared. Every answered prayer is a gift from God. One way we honor gifts is to celebrate them by sharing the story.

I invite you after watching the video to post your prayer story in the comments below.  Then spread it: like it, stumble upon it, tweet it, tumble it, email it, text it, etc.  You might even want to make your own video.

I’ve got nothing against Bieber or cute kid’s biting fingers, but wouldn’t it be awesome if one day some of those top ten spots had something to do with honoring God.  Help make it happen.  Share your story and this post today.

Ok I would like to post your you tube link on my facebook, but don’t have the technical ability.
That being said, you wanted a report (and I don’t have video capability) of prayer going viral.
TODAY! There are NO coincidences with God. So 2 days ago, I commited to praying for a former employer who had some disappointments in his work, and he suggested that the four bids he had in the remainder of January “translates into hope.”
I have prayed for 2 mornings straight for these bids to be secured by him, and when I saw this video (on a lunch break during the most boring class of my life), God placed on my heart to find out specifics about the bids. So I texted a question about the bids. Return text, 2:00 was the first bid. I texted back and said I would be praying for him at 2:00 to be number 1 (he has lost all but one bid in the last couple of years).
At 2:30 I got a text – “Got one Martha” (“one” meaning number one position). Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord.! My prayer was for God to be glorified through this experience, and that the employer would see how God answers prayer. Don’t know that he is totally convinced, but now that he got the job, I will have a job with him! So my love of Jesus will overflow into his company. All to His glory, in His perfect time, in His perfect way. Praise the Lord. And thank you Practical Disciple for this opportunity to share answered prayer. (Now I just need to figure out how to share it n other places.)

During the summer of 2010, I decided to try a new discipline of prayer. I decided to devote 30 days to praying for one specific topic. At that time, my sister-in-law and a good friend had been dealing fertility issues. Both of them, along with their husbands, had been dealing with this for years. And it was weighing heavy on my heart and had been for a long time. I took that as a sign that I needed to pray for them. So I chose to pray for their situations during my 30 days. My husband and I encountered two miscarriages before being blessed with our three children, so I understood (on some level) a little bit of what they all were going through.

So I spent my 30 days focused on these two couples. I prayed for peace, for understanding, for support, that each would find strength & comfort in each other as well as in God. I prayed that they each would be able to make the decisions they were faced. I prayed for the people they would encounter, that they could be shielded from insensitive comments. I prayed for myself in hopes that I could be a better family member and friend. I started off praying that each would get pregnant but then I started changing my wording. I prayed that God’s will would be revealed to them and that if it was God’s will for them to conceive, that they would.

It was a powerful 30 days for me, much more than I expected. The heaviness in my heart that I had been feeling was relieved. And I am pleased to report that my sister-in-law & her husband were able to decide what they should do, that their insurance covered the cost and that she was able to get pregnant with my nephew who was born July 2011. And my friend was also able to conceive and she went on to have a daughter born July 2011 a few weeks after my nephew. So about a year later, both of these couples had their prayers answered.

God is awesome. God does answer prayers.
