A quick easy way to nurture prayer in your family and be a witness

I don’t subscribe to many blogs, but one of my absolute favorites is ‘1000 Ways to Pray’ by Adena Hodges. Adena publishes short practical creative ways to meet God. I loooooved today’s post,’Refrigerator Prayers’.

Adena suggests posting a list of prayer requests on your refrigerator. Each time you go to the refrigerator say a a quick prayer and thank God for answered ones. She also recommends leaving a space to check off answered prayers. Brilliant!

This is a fantastic example of one way to increase prayer throughout your day by using a prayer trigger. Triggers are simply common activities that you use as a catalyst for praying. Some other examples include, coming in and out buildings, tying your shoes, brushing your teeth, reaching for your cell phone or keys, pulling out your bill fold or looking into your purse, etc.

The beauty of a refrigerator prayer is that the refrigerator is a common item everyone in the family uses. Consequently, it can be a trigger for everyone. Plus, guests in your home see it. So, as Adena notes, it can be a witness to unsaved family and friends who might be visiting.

What are other common areas that you can think of for prayer triggers that can prompt the whole family? If you share a bathroom, the bathroom mirror could be one. A note on the dash of the car is another possibility, or what about some kind of table center piece that held prayer requests. You could then include prayer requests as you are saying grace at each meal.

Can you think of other possibilities? I would love to hear them. Please comment below.

p.s. If you aren’t a subscriber to ‘1000 Ways to Pray‘ I highly recommend you head over to her site subscribe right now. She posts once a week pretty faithfully and I almost always learn something from her.
