During the summer of 2010, I decided to try a new discipline of prayer. I decided to devote 30 days to praying for one specific topic. At that time, my sister-in-law and a good friend had been dealing fertility issues. Both of them, along with their husbands, had been dealing with this for years. And it was weighing heavy on my heart and had been for a long time. I took that as a sign that I needed to pray for them. So I chose to pray for their situations during my 30 days. My husband and I encountered two miscarriages before being blessed with our three children, so I understood (on some level) a little bit of what they all were going through.

So I spent my 30 days focused on these two couples. I prayed for peace, for understanding, for support, that each would find strength & comfort in each other as well as in God. I prayed that they each would be able to make the decisions they were faced. I prayed for the people they would encounter, that they could be shielded from insensitive comments. I prayed for myself in hopes that I could be a better family member and friend. I started off praying that each would get pregnant but then I started changing my wording. I prayed that God's will would be revealed to them and that if it was God's will for them to conceive, that they would.

It was a powerful 30 days for me, much more than I expected. The heaviness in my heart that I had been feeling was relieved. And I am pleased to report that my sister-in-law & her husband were able to decide what they should do, that their insurance covered the cost and that she was able to get pregnant with my nephew who was born July 2011. And my friend was also able to conceive and she went on to have a daughter born July 2011 a few weeks after my nephew. So about a year later, both of these couples had their prayers answered.

God is awesome. God does answer prayers.

Ok I would like to post your you tube link on my facebook, but don't have the technical ability.
That being said, you wanted a report (and I don't have video capability) of prayer going viral.
TODAY! There are NO coincidences with God. So 2 days ago, I commited to praying for a former employer who had some disappointments in his work, and he suggested that the four bids he had in the remainder of January "translates into hope."
I have prayed for 2 mornings straight for these bids to be secured by him, and when I saw this video (on a lunch break during the most boring class of my life), God placed on my heart to find out specifics about the bids. So I texted a question about the bids. Return text, 2:00 was the first bid. I texted back and said I would be praying for him at 2:00 to be number 1 (he has lost all but one bid in the last couple of years).
At 2:30 I got a text - "Got one Martha" ("one" meaning number one position). Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord.! My prayer was for God to be glorified through this experience, and that the employer would see how God answers prayer. Don't know that he is totally convinced, but now that he got the job, I will have a job with him! So my love of Jesus will overflow into his company. All to His glory, in His perfect time, in His perfect way. Praise the Lord. And thank you Practical Disciple for this opportunity to share answered prayer. (Now I just need to figure out how to share it n other places.)

What a great verse on self-discipline. Thank you for sharing it. I needed the reminder that self-discipline can be hard, difficult and even painful work, but the alternative of not having self-discipline is a hard, difficult, and painful life. That is one of the constant messages that I heard as I read Proverbs this last week. The pursuit of wisdom is tough, but the fruit of wisdom is amazingly sweet. Blessings.

Thank you for this. My favorite verse as I continue my journey in self-discipline is:
Hebrews 12:11
New Living Translation (NLT)
11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

This verse speaks such truth, and it also lets me know that I am not the only one who feels this way. It also tells me there is a reward if you stick to it.
