Too busy is when prayer is most needed

One of the most common explanations offered for not praying is being too busy.  The irony is that when we are overly busy that is when we most need to plug into God’s presence.  I am really feeling that at the moment.  I am torn between leaving one church and entering another.  We are trying to ready a house for sale while living in it and unable to occupy what will be our new home for possibly a couple of weeks.  It is an insane time of transition.  Every minute demands more from me than I can realistically give.  If I ever needed prayer, I need it now.

So what do I do?  Tomorrow, I will take one hour out of my day for prayer no matter what is going on or needed.  I will go to one of my prayer spots where I cannot be interrupted.  It will be the priority for the day.  All the other stuff doesn’t mean anything if I loose God in the midst of it.  I also know from experience that the one hour of prayer will redeem itself ten fold.  I will find myself centered and more productive because of it.
What else will I do?  I put the word out to multiple friends today.  When you are too busy to prayer get others praying for you.  Intercession is a very powerful spiritual resource.  There is power in numbers of people praying as well.
Lastly, when you are too busy to prayer.  Realize that you are too busy.  Tomorrow I will prioritize what must be done and hack away the things that are just desirable.
Peace to you and to me.  If you are reading this please pray for our family as we transition.  This is not only a very busy time, but a spiritually ripe time.  We need prayers for both guidance and protection.  With gratitude for the challenges and the friends, The Practical Disciple.

  1. Excellent message.

Psalm 20v4: May God give you the desire of your heart and make all of your plans succeed.

  2. Thank You Stushie. I didn’t read your message until after my hour of prayer. Nevertheless, I experienced the fullness of the Psalmist words. I won’t unpack that here, but will in a post. Thank your for your encouragement and prayer through a Psalm. You brother in Christ, The Practical Disciple.
