A Glimpse of God in Creation
Today I had the joy of kayaking through a mangrove swamp in the Yucatan with my son. I once again was struck by the beauty and diversity of God’s creation as we navigated our way through tight deeply shaded tunnels carved out through the mangroves. Spidery looking crabs scampered up the vegetation. Bird songs alien to my ears resonated through the dense thicket, while the familiar sound of cicada’s buzzed in the background.
The diversity of God’s creation was mirrored in downtown of progresso as well. Mayan and Mexican people’s filled the streets. I wonder how many brother’s and sister’s in Christ I passed as I walked along the way. Their language was nearly as foreign sounding to me as the bird songs, yet here and there I saw signs that God’s people were around me….A blessing in spanish painted on a truck….a brightly colored cross hanging in a shop
Peoples, plants, birds, bugs, and more all speaking of God’s infinite ability to create over and over again without repetition. If you have not taken time for a while to just stop, look, and listen to the world around you and feel the wonder and the mystery of God’s creation. Then I encourage you to do so. Take fifteen minutes tonight to go out somewhere and just soak in with your senses what God has created.
Christian blogger Tim Challies had a great post recently on 9 thing he learned about God from the award winning television documentary Planet Earth. To read Tim Challies post click here.
“Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made.” Romans 1:20
Blessings to You from The Practical Disciple
For me, being in the midst of nature, is a spiritual experience. I hear the verse that the world declares the glory of God. Last night, I watch the meteor shower. What a sight. It’s why I’m such a science nut. I love seeing all of the fascinations of creation.
